Because the ORION-CONVERT™ transform is mathematically defined, it is mathematically invertible. Down-convert using a set of parameters, and the same parameters used in reverse expand the compressed highlights back to HDR — a pixel-perfect round trip.

Stage 1

Input compression

The first stage of highlight compression or expansion, applied in the HDR domain on the way down.

Stage 2

Colourimetric conversion

A mathematically defined transform between SDR, HLG, PQ and S-Log3 — which makes it exactly invertible.

Stage 3

Output compression + look

A second compression stage in the target domain, plus parametric look controls, clamping and gamma compensation.
